In every mission, turns follow a structured order to keep the game dynamic and strategic. Each turn consists of choosing actions, resolving effects, and determining the flow of combat. Understanding how turns work will help you coordinate with your team and make the most of every move.
Turn Order & Strategy
Players take turns one at a time. The order is determined by whoever picks their Skill Card first. Because of this, you and your teammates may want to plan ahead and decide who should act first to set up powerful combos or support each other’s moves. Once all players have taken their turn, it shifts into the Monster Phase.
Choosing Skill & Fate Cards
At the start of your turn, you’ll select a Skill Card, which determines what kind of moves you’ll make. If your Skill Card includes an attack, you’ll then draw a Fate Card. Fate Cards apply an additional effect to your attack. Fate Cards can provide bonuses, introduce penalties, alter movement, or trigger unique effects that make every turn unpredictable.
Using Trinkets
You can activate trinkets at any point during your turn. You can do it right after selecting a skill card, during the middle of the actions on your skill card, or after you are done with you skill card (but before ending your turn). Trinkets provide unique effects, such as:
- Healing yourself or allies.
- Buffing yourself or allies.
- Inflicting debuffs on enemies.
- Generating gold or various tile effects.
- Many other special abilities!
Since Trinkets can provide powerful advantages, choosing the right time to use them is an important part of strategy.
Plan or Improvise - It’s Up to You!
Whether you prefer careful planning or a more spontaneous approach, teamwork is essential. Make sure your team is on the same page about how to tackle each mission. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy playing Sunderfolk!
